the chalets on an island in Lake St. Pierre
The chalets in the Lac Saint-Pierre Archipelago on stilts were mostly built in the late 1920s, when several stone dams were built upstream of the channels to raise the water level in the maritime channel. The Archipelago is famous for being declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and for being home to the largest heronry in North America. Its magnificent nature and biodiversity inspired the book Le Survenant written in 1945 by Germaine Guèvrement. As you wander through the 103 islands, you will find a unique and completely exotic territory.
